How are interviews conducted?
FUTEK typically goes through a 3 stage interview process for its open positions. This consists of a phone interview, 1st interview, and final interview. During the third interview we provide an opportunity for our candidates to meet with any FUTEK team member they please. This is to provide an opportunity for the candidate to ask any questions of how it is to work at FUTEK. To ensure full integrity, the FUTEK recruiting manager never participates in this session to allow FUTEK team members to fully disclose their thoughts of our company to the candidates. That’s how confident we are!
What should I expect during the interview?
We recognize that interviews are stressful as it is so you can expect the interview to be conducted in a very relaxed atmosphere. As we are inquiring about your past experiences and interest in working with us, we strongly encourage you to ask us questions about our business as well.
Why do you display your whole team?
We are very selective in adding new members and go through a very thorough process to make sure each candidate is a fit for our team. Once they join us they are treated like another member of FUTEK family. We are very proud of our team and owe our success to all these talented individuals who have unconditionally trusted and supported us throughout the years. They are FUTEK and they are the reason we have a satisfied customers who return to purchase our products. It is because of these reasons that we want everyone to know and recognize them.
I have noticed many of your employees have been there for a long time. How do you do it?
Approach is everything! We get our team involved and challenged, stimulating their mind, making sure they recognize their role and contribution to our vision. A challenge is approached by a team rather than one individual. We are brought together when we succeed and we stay together even when we fail. We experience the highs, and we experience lows, ALL as a team.
To understand the challenge, there has to be an opportunity to hear it! Every morning, we meet at 6:59 AM, with FUTEK’s team leaders to provide opportunities to explore our objectives, discuss the challenges, and find new avenues to inspire each other. We also hold a monthly meeting where every FUTEK employee is present to discuss important matters such as monthly performance, the importance of safety, or just to announce the celebration of a birthday.
Our objective is to continue our open door policy, avoiding a pyramid type of management with layers so our employees feel comfortable enough to talk to us. We recognize there will always be a wall between employers and employees, but we have managed to make the wall as thin as possible to hear them and transparent enough to see them. We do not baby sit our employees, and strongly believe they are here to learn and do outstanding job as long as they are tooled properly, trained sufficiently and guided wisely. Our management style is a coaching approach rather than bossing people around. It is for these reasons and for many more that we find our employees sticking with us.
How do you train a new employee?
Of course, each position we fill is truly unique making the training program for it completely customized. However, there are some general guidelines we follow as we schedule most new candidates for a 2 week rotation in all departments to get a taste of all processes and an opportunity to meet our team members. We also exercise shadowing techniques for as long as it is necessary to ensure that the candidate understands their role and position. We encourage asking questions and remind everyone that the only stupid question is the one which was not asked.
