Edison improved the incandescent lamp in 1879, but he didn’t actually invent it. Sir Humphrey Davy is reputed to be the true inventor of the electric light. He passed electricity though a platinum wire and caused an arc lamp to glow as early as 1802. However, Davy did not pursue the discovery. By the time Edison entered the scene, arc lamps had been burning for several decades, but were limited by short life spans. Edison developed a long-lasting filament light in 1877, and in 1879 produced the first long-lasting light bulb.

Futek Advanced Sensor Technology, Inc Achieves
ISO 9001:2000 certification
We at Futek Advanced Sensor Technology, Inc. have exciting news to share. Today we have been accorded ISO 9001:2000 certification of our Quality Management System. Certification was granted by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Certification Incorporated, recognized as one of the world’s leading ISO Certification bodies.
This certification recognizes and ensures a management system capable of the highest level of product quality and customer support.
The ISO 9001:2000 quality standard places greater accountability on executive management’s involvement and instills measurable objectives in the Quality Management System. Additionally, the standard now examines the extent to which a company’s Quality System contains customer–focused elements, including understanding needs, meeting requirements, and keeping customers informed as well as measuring their satisfaction.
FUTEK in Korea!
For the first time ever, FUTEK will be exhibiting in Korea. FUTEK will be at the Korea Electronic Parts & Equipment Show 2007 from April 4-6th. If you’re in the Asia area, this would be a great opportunity to visit us and meet us in person. The show is at Atlantic Hall COEX in Seoul Korea. Visit us at booth #M116
In this application FUTEK load cells are used to control material distribution while monitoring the tank level. The load cell with in-line amplifier can be directly connected to a plc or computer for feedback control or one of the FUTEK instruments with set point alarm or analog output option. A sound alarm can be connected to the plc, computer or the display to Alarm when the process is completed or the tank is full or empty.
Cryogenics – “Too Cold, But Not Too Challenging”
Being a solutions provider, FUTEK has evolved to serve a diversified market, which has played a great part in FUTEK’s development towards its unique expertise and “know how” for many challenging requirements. This includes the extreme demands of cryogenic applications. FUTEK has provided load cell solutions for several cryogenic applications in various aerospace programs. FUTEK engineers designed a low capacity sensor with a 250N capacity range for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) that was used in feasibility studies for a scheduled Mars mission in 2009. JPL used this load cell to verify whether or not a load cell could accomplish a number of undisclosed tasks in space.
