50th Anniversary of Moon Landing
Release Date: 07/20/2019

FUTEK Advanced Sensor Technology, Inc. congratulates the NASA team on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their extraordinary success in landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth. It was back on May 25, 1961 that President John F. Kennedy announced to the nation the dramatic and ambitious goal of landing and American on the moon and returning him to earth. The nation’s scientific and aerospace community pulled together, and on July 20, 1969 Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon. NASA followed this dramatic achievement with six more Apollo landings, concluding on December 14, 1972 with Apollo 17 making the last lunar landing in the Apollo program. The moon has remained of great interest to the scientific community and our exploration of the surface of the moon has yielded incredible science which has prompted years of study and discovery. NASA is exploring partnerships which will enable it to return to the moon by 2024, led by the U.S. and a coalition of other nations.

FUTEK has been engaged in space exploration with NASA and JPL for over two decades involving satellites, scientific experiments on the International Space Station as well as our latest contributions to the Mars Rover Curiosity which continues to send back extraordinary science from the surface of Mars. FUTEK provided two cryogenic force and torque sensors to enable precise movements of Curiosity’s robotic arm to facilitate many of the science experiments conducted by the Mars Science Laboratory. JPL has even repurposed the FUTEK sensors to reestablish drilling capabilities when the original core sample drill stabilizer failed. This enabled resumption of core drilling and sample analysis. FUTEK looks forward to supporting NASA/JPL on upcoming lunar and Mars missions.
