FUTEK’s LSB200 Supports Rocket Engine Thrust Measurement

IRVINE, Calif.: The University of California San Diego (UCSD) students in partnership with the Additive Rocket Corporation (ARC) selected FUTEK's LSB200 Jr. Miniature S-Beam Load Cell to test the monopropellant engines in their rocket thrust measurement stand.

ARC tasked UCSD students to design a test stand to measure the thrust produced by AR's 3D printed, monopropellant hydrogen peroxide engines. They chose the LSB200 because of its miniature footprint and 1000% overload protection. The large overload protection value prevents the likelihood of a testing mishap.

UCSD's unique test stand places the rocket engine over the free end of a cantilever beam. The load cell is attached between the fixed end of the beam and its fixture. This arrangement allows the LSB200 to accurately measure engine thrust while minimizing extraneous loads on the sensor.

With this new test stand, UCSD has developed a high accuracy test platform to support testing of ARC's 3D printed rocket engines.
